Trail Lodge Tea Introduces Loggerhead Tea!
Trail Lodge Tea is excited to introduce our newest tea called Loggerhead Tea. It is a lemon mint green tea. The idea for this tea came from a trip to South Carolina during their hot and humid summer. So it is no surprise that iced tea is very common there. We discovered it was also very popular to add lemon and mint to their tea. We found this to be very refreshing and decided to make a new Trail Lodge Blend that would great for serving on a hot and humid day. We came up with a blend ofFair Trade Certified TM Organic China Sencha and Organic Spearmint, Organic Lemon Peel, Organic Natural Flavoring, and Organic Calendula Petals. It also makes a nice hot tea. The best part of the tea is that it is our newest "charitea". A portion of every sale goes to the South Carolina Aquarium Sea Turtle Rescue Program. The South Carolina Aquarium uses its facilities to treat injured and sick sea turtles through its Sea Turtle Rescue Program. They have been able to re-release many sea turtles back into the wild since they began this program. We were able to tour the facilities during our trip to Charleston. There were several patients in various stages of recovery when we visited and the wonderful care they were receiving was evident by clean facilities and knowledgeable staff. At the time of our visit, they had several species including Green Sea Turtles, Kemp's Ridley, and Loggerhead. We decided to name the new tea Loggerhead Tea since the state animal of South Carolina is the Loggerhead.
Trail Lodge Tea Supports Fair Trade
You can find Fair Trade products by clicking our Fair Trade tab. The labels used to be in a black and white format and have recently changed to a green and black image. For products that are made entirely out of Fair Trade ingredients, you will see this label. This applies to products that our made of one type of tea such as Celtic Cottage or North Point Darjeeling. It also applies to a blend of Fair Trade teas such as our High Country Tea. This tea is made from three teas from Sri Lanka, China, and India. All three teas are Fair Trade Certified. Trail Lodge Tea uses Fair Trade products whenever possible because we believe everyone should receive a fair wage and have good working and living conditions. However, some products are not available as Fair Trade Certified or we have those products here in the United States. In those cases we purchase other ingredients. Trail Lodge Tea also believes in supporting our local economy so we do purchase ingredients that are available in the United States. Also, buying items closer to home is better for the environment because less fuel is used in shipping. So you might see these labels on some of our products: These logos are used when one are more Fair Trade ingredients are used in the product, but it is not made 100% of Fair Trade ingredients. For example, our Cherry Almond Rooibos contains Fair Trade Certified Rooibos. This ingredient is 40% of Cherry Almond Rooibos, but it also contains other ingredients. We mixed it with organic honeybush. At this time, there isn't any farmers producing Fair Trade Certified Rooibos. The other ingredients are organic dried cherries, sliced almonds, and organic natural flavoring. We purchase these ingredients from U.S. producers because these ingredients are available here.
